In today's presentation, you will learn the concept of a computerized adaptive testing, also referred to CAT. You will also learn the change in the Next Generation CAT exam. By the end of this session, you will know what variable length exam is, how does Next Generation CAT exam controls content balancing, and what the exam-stopping rules are for the Next Generation NCLEX CAT.

    Currently, RN passing standard is 0.00 logits. If you pay attention, you will find the passing standard has expiration date. RN passing standard is good until March 31, 2023. Why is the standard good for only three years? Because the practice of nursing changes over time and it is necessary to reevaluate the standard every three years. The standard does not necessarily change every three years because sometimes we maintain the same standard after reevaluation. I will use these terminologies in my presentation.

    There are some people that wouldn't do this if their life depended on it and there are some that will do it because it's a Tuesday and it's just part of who they are. And I've been learning...yesterday I learned that screening process for psychological conditions that are more stable and unchanging over time, like psychological personality disorders and things of that nature, that those people really aren't screened out of the nursing profession in the way that we do try to screen them out with some level of effectiveness in policing through selection.

    It's a program for international assessment of adult competency. So it's not just the young children, adult competencies, literacy, numeracy, as well as problem-solving. And that included a questionnaire about whether you felt you were under-skilled or over-skilled. And what was a very disturbing finding amongst the OECD countries is to discover that doctors and nurses which are among the most highly regulated and incredibly highly educated skill groups, in spite of that, we find significant skills mismatch.
