The RNs and the LPN/VNs had statistically significant differences in their ratings on the following practice setting tasks: (1) administer medications by common routes (PO, SQ, IM, IV, etc.) (χ2=9.41, df=2, p<.01); (2) administer medications to large groups of clients (10 or more) (χ2=80.47, df=2, p<.01); (3) provide di- rect care to six or more clients (χ2=55.29, df=2, p<.01); (4) document a legally defensible ac- count of care provided (χ2=6.50, df=2, p<.05); and (5) work effectively within a health care team (χ2=6.35, df=2, p<.05).

The report is to educate the public that drugs other than alcohol, including marijuana, are absorbed, distributed and eliminated from the body differently than alcohol. While BAC correlates closely with impairment, there is no such measure (e.g., THC) for marijuana that correlates with impairment. Thus, a BAC-equivalent impairment measure is not possible. And when we got there, I called the physician's office and got ahold of him and had to have a lengthy conversation with him to say, "No more tests, please honor her DNR." In the example for my father, which was four years later, suddenly out of nowhere, he started to mix up his medications, his many, many medications. And at the time, he had a home health aide and supervised by a nurse. The nurse would visit maybe monthly. And so at the time, in 1999, New Jersey did not allow for a nursing delegation of medication administration just to home health aides. Susan and I would realize that a little bit in the future, when we started working together, that that was a specific provision in the Nurse Practice Act.

We had some public health system, but it was not nearly what it should be. There were no clinics in any of these small villages. And Senator Stevens wanted to change all that. I went to many of the villages with him right before I went to college. He wanted to visit, see what the conditions were like. So that was a real eye-opener. After I came back from college, I got involved in the local political party. My parents had always been very involved in community issues. In fact, as my father lay dying in the hospital, he was giving me messages to take to the city council on an issue he cared deeply about.
