The Board moved to approve a donation of $50,000 to CAC in support of the Scope of Practice Initiative, Phase II and invite representatives from the CAC to a meeting of the Board of Directors to discuss specific recommendations resulting from this initiative.

NLCA Update The Board reviewed the NLCA Update Report provided to the Board from the Chair of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators and noted the draft NLCA meeting minutes from August 2, 2011 had also been provided to the Board by the NLCA. The Board asked about the future composition of the Interface Group. Lanette Anderson will join NCSBN representatives along with Myra Broadway, Shirley Brekken, Debra Scott, and Betsy Houchen. There were no further questions from the Board. G.19. Appointment to Model Act & Rules Committee Action #10 The Board reviewed recommendations to appoint a member to the Model Act & Rules Committee to fill a vacancy. The Board moved to appoint Fred Knight from Arkansas to the vacancy on the Model Act & Rules Committee.

Education Can Decrease Nursing Errors NCSBN’s Research Services recently found that the quality of nursing education impacts errors made in entry-level practice. A 2002 survey of newly licensed RNs and LPN/VNs demonstrated that 49% of the RNs and 41% of the LPN/VNs had been involved in errors within their first months of practice.
