Experts believe that the actual impact of the pandemic on suicide rates may not be known for years as the cumulative effects of burnout and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are generally not evident immediately and may occur months and years after the “event.”

    NGN’s implementation came at a time when the decrease in NCLEX pass rates had been of concern to nurse employers, nursing programs and nurse regulators for several years. Unsurprisingly, the disruptions to education and the world at large during the global COVID-19 pandemic had both an impact on nursing education and the pass rates. Nursing students dealt with the challenge of having to immediately pivot to remote learning and virtual classrooms. Clinical placements were limited, and in some cases, eliminated from the curricula.

    But for the purposes of this presentation, the rest of my data and information is also going to include events that have happened since 2020. So, I went and I added all of the recent events from 2020 through 2023. So, just to give a little update on that, since 2020, we had 19 additional recidivists join that list, meaning they were disciplined once between 2020 and 2023, and then disciplined again in that same time. So, 16 of those 19 events fall into that category where their first and subsequent discipline happened between 2020 and 2023.
