Client Health Conditions and ages B .C . responders reported caring for clients with acute conditions (58 .4%), clients with stable chronic conditions (26 .5%), clients with unstable chronic con- ditions (18 .7%) and clients with behavior/emotional conditions (18 .3%) . This ranking pattern is consis- tent with entry-level RNs in the U .S . The majority of B .C . responders reported caring for older adult clients aged 65 to 85 (53 .9%), adult clients aged 31 to 64 (42 .0%), older adult clients aged 85 and older (15 .5%) and newborn clients (10 .0%) .

    Approximately one week after the first postcard, a second reminder postcard was sent and two weeks later, the third and final reminder postcard was mailed. The survey was conducted from June through July 2005. Confidentiality All potential participants were promised con- fidentiality with regard to their participation and their responses. Preassigned code numbers were used to facilitate cost-effective follow-up mailings and the files that contained mailing information were kept separate from the data files. The study protocol was reviewed and approved by NCSBN’s executive director for compliance with organizational guidelines for research studies involving human subjects.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate strategies for varying items that can effectively generate items at targeted difficulty levels and specific test plan areas. Each variant item generation model was developed by decomposing selected source items possessing ideal measurement properties and targeting the desirable content domains. 341 variant items were generated from 72 source items. Data were collected from six pretest periods. Items were calibrated using the Rasch model. Initial results indicate that variant items showed desirable measurement properties.
