    Tortoriello et al20 have used sophisticated quantitative and qualitative molecular analyses and pharmacologic methods to study human fetuses electively aborted during the second trimester, in both pregnant women who smoked marijuana and pregnant women in a control group who did not use marijuana.19 They found that in fetuses exposed prenatally to marijuana, levels of molecular substances essential for neuronal cell axonal elongation (SCG10) are significantly reduced, which affects the disassembly of microtubules essential for axonal elongation and the “pathfinding” essential for the development of normal neuronal circuitry during early brain development.
