    So, you could see then looking at trends, if the data within Nursys from your board is increasing or going down. There are some key data elements that all the board should be looking at. First one is the DI 4, 4a and 5. And this all is related to discipline records. DI 6 through 9 includes licensure data directly related to verifications. DI 25 and 26 has to do with missing SSN and DOB. And this is important because we use those two, particularly for our matching within Nursys. And then last is DI 39 to 44, which are education records utilized in the verification process. So, what is the impact?

    So I would not like to see this watered down in any way, because I truly believe that we are still having many of those problems and many of the mistakes and problems that we have in health care today, where mistakes are made, and patients are injured or even die. The Institute of Medicine wanted to reduce those errors by 50% by 2007. That didn't happen. And I'd hate to think if we redid that report today, we'd still be having not just that many, we'd be having many more errors that are resulting in morbidity and mortality for our patients.

    That if you add the high-risk category to that, it's about 25% are at moderate or high risk for developing an alcohol use disorder. So that's, no pun intended, sobering information to have.
