    I'm general counsel for the Texas Board of Nursing, and I've been in that position for about 20 years. And I've been with the Board like 22 years. And I'm, you know, one of those guys that's approaching retirement someday, but not yet. My topic today, I think, Kathleen Russell was telling me that there's not a lot of this unique, kind of, a unique law we have in Texas, Safe Harbor Peer Review, and that maybe it was something that I could talk to y'all about.

    So just by way of background and context, as many of you in this room may be aware of, the GNE was part of the ACA. Back in 2010, there were many coalition stakeholders who came together to really pursue the policy reforms, which included the GNE Demonstration. There was $200 million, which was allocated for a 4- year project, which was to run between 2012 and 2016. Because they were, like, funds that were left over, after 2016, the project was extended for an additional two years. So, in fact, the GNE Project ran for a total of six years. As you can imagine, there are many rules around that two-year extension period and I'll talk a little bit about that.

    Is there value in creating a category for small NRBs, possibly based on number of licensees? • Committee discussed whether we should start offering feedback when a nomination is unsuccessful. Testing Accommodation Process Action Steps for the Nursing Regulatory Bodies: § Review candidate requests and documentation for testing accommodations. § Determine whether the accommodation is appropriate for the candidate’s diagnosis. § Approve appropriate accommodations. § Enter the candidate’s approved accommodations into the NCLEX Administration website.
