Background 2015 Simulation Guidelines • In 2015, an expert panel convened by NCSBN evaluated the data gathered through the National Simulation Study, examined previous research and used their collective knowledge to develop national simulation guidelines for prelicensure nursing programs. • An article in the Journal of Nursing Regulation presented the guidelines, evidence to support the use of simulation, and information for faculty and program directors on preparation and planning for using simulation successfully in their nursing programs.

And so, that is another takeaway APRNs need to be aware of. So here in our state, APRNs are not permitted to prescribe controlled substances for chronic pain, and thus it was a violation by this APRN to have treated this patient with controlled substances for chronic pain. Again, the board looked at the documentation for this APRN and all the charts were in fact very excellently documented, including the chart for this patient.

And I think because we get more and more into the need for good rationale for it. And so I think more that we document our evidence, the better it is. So this is always an option, and, you know, keep your square wheels, and, you know, just leave the regulation go. And I have to tell you, if we don't do this, if we don't stay up with the times, some other regulator will come in or some other discipline will come in and do it for us.

If it doesn't, then it's not a disqualifying event. If it does, then it is a disqualifying event. You're going to ask the same question for the non-nursing board actions. Is it going to be something that, for instance, violates a uniform licensure requirement? So, one example that I can think of that could come up for you or come up in the future is let's say that you have a nurse who has a multistate license with you, and that nurse picks up a felony conviction.

That's been a bit of the focus but again, that puts the public at risk when there are sort of outbreaks. I think that we'll be doing hotel quarantine in Australia for a long time. So I think there still is the opportunity for quarantine in Australia, maybe not hotel quarantine. So I think there is the opportunity for those processes to continue to improve. And just to summarize, I'm just going to reflect on a quote that the director of the Power and Diplomacy Program at the Lowy Institute made with talking about the report that I flagged before.
