NLRN Retention Retention data were available for all NLRNs hired by the 82 hospitals (n = 1375). Of the 693 NLRNs hired by HPS hospitals, 86% (n = 596) were retained at the end of the 1st year, whereas only 80% (n = 545) of the 682 hired by LPS hospitals were retained (P < .01). Voluntary choice accounted for most of the turn- over, with 19% (n = 110) choosing to leave at LPS hospitals and 14% (n = 97) at HPS hospitals. NLRN Competence NLRNs rated themselves on overall competence and on specific quality and safety competencies at 6, 9, and 12 months (Table 4). As reported in the overall study,7 their self-ratings increased at a statistically sig- nificant rate over time.

So, as Ashley mentioned, the Rural Health Transformation Program, it's a lot of money. I have to admit, I opened my calculator app to try and figure out how much money it was over 5 years if allocated evenly across states, and realized I was dividing $50 billion by 50. So it's one billion potentially for all the states. So that's a lot of money, and that can account for a lot of change and transformation in what a state's healthcare landscape looks like.

When I first started out I was asking everyone for everything. Now I handle what I can by myself and ask when it is something that is over my head. [RN, year 4] Experience led to communicating and dealing with conflict more confidently A competent nurse should stand up for colleagues and patients. Speak up when an error is made, apologize when things are not right and approach management and doctors when respect is not mutually maintained.

We've worked with other jurisdictions to compile a list of affidavits, maybe things that you've used in your state that have worked out, whether that's a chain-of-custody affidavit or affidavits from the Florida Board of Nursing. We've tried to put all this in one location so that you're not having to recreate the wheel over, and over, and over. Maybe you don't realize you need it. Start digging through there, and look, and see what's available. It may be extremely helpful to you or to your legal team as you see what's actually in there. One of the questions I get frequently is, "Hey, can you help me access Kiteworks?"

You know, the alternative program has all these requirements for me. The discipline program, I just need to go get tested and, you know, whatever." So that's something we need to look at also. It's lost its luster. So some of the things that have changed over the last...couple more minutes, over the last three, five years. Increase in use... And I say this because these are some of the things that prove to us or show us that, hey, we can change. There are things that we can do to move forward, to make this more attractive, and make us more efficient.
