    Distribution of Responses Nursing Regulatory Governance Question Has there been any regulatory actions taken to aid the movement of nurses into, and out of the jurisdiction? Practice & Workforce • Only Poland and Sweden, and two Latin American countries have expanded the role of the nurse in our sample. • Five jurisdictions (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Poland, and El Salvador) adjusted the process for accepting internationally education nurses. • One third of our sample (10) altered their continued competency requirements for generalist nurses through online course offerings. • 60% (16) of our sample allowed retired nurses to re-enter the workforce.

    The survey also included questions about the nurses’ practice settings, past experiences and demographics. Six forms of the survey were created to reduce the number of activity statements on each survey and sent via the internet to a sample of newly licensed LPN/ VNs. Four of the survey forms contained 26 activity statements each, and two survey forms contained 25 activity statements. Except for the activity statements unique to each survey form, the surveys were identical. Survey Process Sample Selection A sample of 26,559 recipients was randomly selected from the candidates who passed the NCLEX-PN® examination from April 8, 2023, through Feb. 15, 2024.

    Most of the occurrences across all settings (n = 830 [79.7%]) did not necessitate system, policy, practice, or curriculum changes; however, some occurrences prompted the following changes at the educational institution level: practice changes (n = 177 [17%]), curriculum changes (n = 26 [2.5%]), and policy chang- es (n = 4 [0.4%]). The majority of nursing students who were involved in an error or near miss (n = 603 [57.9%]) were between the ages of 21 and 25 years (Table 4) and were in the latter part of their program (n = 490 [47%]).
