Gonczi (1994) describes competence as being able to integrate abilities with professional judgments in varying contexts. Flanagan, Baldwin, and Clarke (2000) use the term “workbased” learning to describe a designated program of learning within an occupational setting where service and education collaborate to provide a clinical course for students occurring as they work within the service setting. The workbased clinical course must integrate occupational competencies with the formal teach ing and evaluation that occurs within an academic nursing course.

National 2-part process to identify reports and to analyze their content. First organizations were identified (using experts), and then each site was used to retrieve and analyze their work. They purposely did not include regulatory agencies and NCSBN because “their mission is to protect the public.” They identified 15 organizations and 35 reports. In the consultant role, the visitor can make clarifications and provide new information. As a facilitator, the site visitor can encourage the participants to share information in an open environment. Site visitors are fact finders because they comprehensively gather information from a variety of sources. Lastly, site visitors take on the role of problem solver, thus assisting programs to identify ways to meet the requirements of the state boards of nursing (NCSBN, 1995).

So, these are your anticonvulsants, your antidepressants, because there are certain antidepressants like Cymbalta that have pain management properties, and there's that, you know, link between mental health and chronic pain. Prescription NSAIDs, prescription acetaminophen, muscular relaxants, things along those lines, physicians actually had higher odds of prescribing these medications compared to NPs and PAs as well, and there was no significant difference between NPs and PAs. I will add the caveat that with the tens of thousands of patients that we had, these effect sizes, these statistical effect sizes may not really be clinically meaningful in the day-to-day, kind of, practice.

I sought involve- ment at the national level in NCSBN during my first year as the executive director for the Montana State Board of Nursing and did so suc- cessfully. I have made many friends and developed relationships with colleagues at NCSBN and believe these relationships and growing knowledge of NCSBN processes will help me serve on the NCSBN Board as an active participant.
