Previously, a standard 15-seat test site operating 12 hours per day was able to test up to 30 NCLEX candidates a day (two appointments per seat x 15 seats). With social distancing, that same site is only able to use eight of the 15 seats, but the shortened exam now allows for three appointments per seat.

As a member of Area II she participated in the early planning that resulted in the establishment of the Special Task Force—State Boards of Nursing. Upon the formation of NCSBN she was elected to the board of directors and served the maximum six years in the offices of Area II director, vice president, and president. Throughout the years she chaired the Bylaws Committee, served on a test service evaluation committee and an ad hoc test security investigation team, and was part 6 Dorsey · Schowalter of several test service negotiating teams. She was also a member of the 1990 Executive Director Search Committee and chaired the Executive Directors’ Network Planning Group (1994–1996).

Addressing some of today’s most important nursing practice issues, these publications present in-depth information and best practice techniques to enhance perspective and contribute to the nursing knowledge base. These publications are available for download free of charge from the NCSBN Web site at www.ncsbn.org. Online Courses NCSBN Learning Extension is a pioneer in e-learning for the nursing community, launching the first online preparation course for the NCLEX-RN Examination in 1998. Currently, more than 36 online courses are offered, promoting safe nursing practices to nurses, student nurses and nursing faculty.

We refer to these as sort of our owned and operated sites, although we have a lot more latitude with our student experiences. Example is the College of Nursing, our faculty and students set up the employee health COVID screening line in partnership with employee health service. Simultaneously, another faculty member and group of students were setting up the employee testing site also in partnership with our employee health services. And so we were able to get a lot of experiences both on the systems focused practicum as well as direct care experiences doing those COVID screenings remotely as well as doing on-site testing.

Collaboration with external organizations remained an important component of NCSBN’s strategic plan. In 2005, the NCSBN Board of Directors (BOD) welcomed South Korean Deputy Consul General Young Suk Do who thanked the BOD for establishing a testing site in Korea. The Board also met with Dr. Mi Ja Kim from the Academy of International Leadership Development at the University of Illinois – Chicago to explore issues surrounding global nursing including technology, knowledge, disappearance of national boundaries, global markets and cultural sensitivity.

The catalog of courses expanded to 33 offerings on a variety of subjects ranging from continuing education courses for nurses and nursing regulators, preparatory courses for licensure exam candidates, and item writing and test development courses for nursing faculty. A redesigned and reconfigured ncsbn.org Web site was launched in October 2006. The new ncsbn.org featured enhanced search capabilities, appealing graphics and a clean, uncluttered design, a searchable archive of important papers, policies, images and data; and improved navigation throughout the site.
