So this crew did not dock to the Space Station, but they had talked to my crew, the day before because we had arranged for a ship-to-ship communication because I just thought it was neat that we had one crew out in space and another crew out in a different part of space. Hey, let's have them talk over dinner. So we scheduled a com over dinner. And they loved that. So my Space Station crew knew the shuttle crew was supposed to be landing that day. But I'm in mission control. And this picture on "CNN" is how we found out what happened. All we knew in the shuttle room was that they were not answering our calls.

And that's genetically modulated, which leads to that increase in repetition and exposure, which changes the brain as I'll talk about. And again, this creates this abnormally high priority. Substances should never have the priority that they become. They become top of the list for people who become addicted, right? There's nothing more important every day than seeking and getting over the effect of the substance. That becomes the top priority in someone who's addicted, their life. The preoccupation and the occupation. It's a full time job. When they're not doing it, they're thinking about doing it or getting over the effects. It becomes an abnormal priority.

It has been shown clearly that it is an international movement of an educational character, and we cannot fail to learn from the efforts of nurses in other countries, from the successes and failures both at home and abroad, that what affects the standards in one state or one country will affect, sooner or later, the standards in every state or country…. We must never lose sight for a moment of the fact that we are not working for ourselves alone, in one particular state, but for the whole nursing body the world over.” Palmer (1907), pp 428 A Issue of Global Concern 5 | “…this practice [the creation of state licensing boards] has already led to grave abuses. There seems to be excellent reason for licenses in some kinds of work as that of engineers, physicians and pharmacists.

So for a complex problem, it's good to come at it from a lot of different angles. That's something to think about. A lot of times we're tackling a stubborn problem, and we find that we're not really getting results, but we tend to be coming at it the same way over and over and over and over again. Well, this is a nice thing to remind us of. We've got a lot of bags of tricks, right? Or one bag with a lot of tricks. So here we go, three different ways. Now, here's how we might use them in conjunction. I'm going to go again, and I have a feeling in ©2023 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.

The detailed results, I think for all of these measures, reveal that we've made progress in addressing levels of emotional exhaustion among both workforces. But again, lots of work lies ahead. Not surprisingly, these mixed results ultimately drove mixed outcomes when nurses were queried about any changes to their employment over the prior two years. So there was a surge, you can see, among both the RN and PN workforces over the last two years, that indicated reduced volatility, reduced disruption in their day-to-day employment. So those who indicated that there was no change in their employment over the ensuing two-year period, actually increased two to threefold.
