The Leadership in Public Policy Conference is our bi-annual conference hoping to bolster nurse regulators in policy space and presentations at NCSBN meetings like this is how we can further connect with you all. And these are just a few helpful links. Each of our advocacy campaigns has a website. You are able to view presentations from the Public Policy Conference if you'd like to consider joining us in 2024. It was a great time, I would recommend, and the Policy Knowledge Network. This theory of bias was first discussed in a 1998 paper, based on the results of Implicit Association Tests, IATs taken by many different people. The Harvard Implicit Project, which was created that same year has administered tens of millions of IATs to people online. On its website, the Harvard Implicit Project says the IAT measures the strength of attitudes and beliefs that people may be unwilling or unable to report. The results of this testing has confirmed when people are asked to quickly associate the concept of good or bad with faces of different races or different ethnic groups, almost everyone, regardless of background, is slower in their reactions when associating good with people of color than they are associating good with white faces.

A person who does not get stuck in the day to day, but strives to make the nursing profession better and is a advo- cate for the practice. A leader. [LPN/VN, Year 5] I think there are two characteristics that reflect a person’s competence. The first trait is that a com- petent nurse is never satisfied with their level of knowledge… I feel that a second trait that highly competent nurses exhibit is confidence, or coolness under pressure… Finally I would emphasize that in an emergency situation or even just a trying situa- tion, the nurse needs to demonstrate calmness and confidence to gain the trust of the general public as well as their fellow nurses.

So with that, if you're interested in artificial intelligence, I have with the help of a generous grant from the foundation and the Institute, there's an ebook that's available before the real book comes out. We have a monthly or bimonthly magazine that you can read all the talks from previous meetings called Artificial Intelligence in Medicine are uploaded, including talks on regulatory issues. And that's the URL for the website. And for those of you, that's my contact information, including my cell phone, by the way, if people want to text me. I don't get an overabundance of calls or texts, so don't worry. And this is our big sort of the Olympics of AI medicine meetings.

You know, the federation certainly addresses risk in a lot of its documents, whether that's in model policy, or in guidelines or even in communications with boards and various research projects that we engage in. But in terms of an actual formal definition of risk-based regulation, we haven't done that in a way that's been in a public-facing way on our website or in any of our guidance documents. We did survey our state medical boards, we survey them at least annually on a number of different topics. And in 2016, we decided to include a question on risk-based regulation to find out where they were at with the concept or whether they'd implemented any strategies.

So now we're going to talk a little bit about how we can create simulations that will follow the standards of best practice and also support teaching our learners about critical judgment. On the left-hand side, I provided a QR code. The standards, there are 10 of them. They are readily available on the INACSL website for free, so I would encourage you to scan that QR code so you can have access to those standards. So we don't have time to focus on all the standards. However, we're going to spend a little bit of time focusing on some of them. The first one that we're going to talk about is the simulation design.

We have about 15 training programs that have already been approved in Kentucky. We also now are utilizing the MACE exam, which is offered through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing through Credentia. So that is just now getting ready to go up on our website within the next two weeks. So we're very...we've had very good results from this. And I also, just another caveat, I think it's important for the regulator executive director to be involved with professional organizations that speak to these entities.
