The obtained data can be used to identify barriers and gaps in case processing and the identification of problems that otherwise might not be known. This information is essential to assist the agency in making decisions regarding appropriate allocation of investigative resources as well as developing reports for upon legislative request, news media, and annual reports. Each agency should have a strategic plan with established timeframes and productivity measures for completing investigative cases. Case completion timeframes and productivity measures should be incorporated into investigative and legal staff’s evaluation and used as part of their yearly evaluation.
