Despite taking longer to make decisions, novices still have trouble with effective decision-making. The aim of this paper is to review the factors that contribute to clinical judgment and decision-making of novice nurses.

But I think everyone has gone to McDonald's at some point in their life. It turns out most people will remember the story of that nice little old lady who was in Florida, who went to McDonald's and got hot coffee and burned herself, and she sued. And a lot of attorneys said, you know, it was just frivolous litigation. Wow. It turns out that McDonald's knew that their really hot coffee between 180 degrees and 190 degrees would hurt people, yet, they still did it. They figured out it would cost them less to make a few settlements for the people that got burned and they still could say, we sell, you know, hot coffee.

Of Benner et al.’s (2010) 26 transformative recommendations, four of them support nurses advancing their education.
