All of those things are pivotal for a healthy population. So that's the course that I took to get here where I am in the State Senate. I am honored to serve as the Senate President. I will tell you most of the job, I think, is counseling. Because when you have a body of 19 other senators, they're all lead dogs. So they all want to be in front. And if they're not, they're unhappy. So there's a lot of counseling involved and negotiating. Negotiating, yes. But that's something you and I do, right? Don't we sort of negotiate with our patients?

And that reality is informing our advocacy efforts. In November, the NLC was heard in the Joint Committee on healthcare financing, which afforded us an opportunity to testify in support of the compact. We focused largely on the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the NLCs ability to facilitate efficient mutual aid during times of public health emergency or disaster, and the ways in which the NLC can be one tool in the toolbox to address nursing workforce issues. Given compact's skepticism though, we knew we needed more supportive data.

The new graduates (628 RNs and 519 LPNs) were employed in 1,015 facilities, including hospitals and long-term care and community-based facilities. In hospitals, 33.4% of RNs and 22.4% of LPNs had a TTP program. In long- term care facilities, 5.6% of RNs and 8.8% of LPNs had a TTP program. And in community-based agencies, 19% of RNs and 14.7% of LPNs had a TTP program. In a more recent survey of nonprofit home health care and hospice agencies (n = 56 in 2011 and n = 44 in 2013), Pittman, Bass, Hargraves, Herrera, and Thompson (2015) report that 2.5% of these agencies had nurse residencies in 2011, with that increasing to 14.7% in 2013.

I feel like a fan girl because I've been reading your books for a long time. I'm Lori Glenn from Michigan. I'm on the board of nursing. My mentor was someone who followed you very closely, and introduced me to you early on. So I've been in education for 19 years. I've had the great privilege of being able to open a master's entry program on a small campus, with a small number of students, and do some little things that every...a lot of the things we've talked about today. It's like three years old, so we're still working through it.
